Myotherapy Reservoir

Myotherapy is a branch of manual medicine which focuses on the treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions.

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a type of physical therapy that uses manual techniques to relieve muscle pain and tension. Myotherapy can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, and sports injuries.
Myotherapy treatments typically involve the use of massage, stretching, and compression to release muscle tension and improve range of motion.

How does Myotherapy treatment work?

Myotherapists take into account all aspects of health and wellness to treat patients – this includes not only physical, but psychological and occupational aspects of the individual.

One of the main benefits of myotherapy is that it can help to reduce or alleviate chronic and acute pain. This can be especially helpful for those suffering from conditions such as arthritis or fibromyalgia, which are often characterised by muscle stiffness, inflammation and tenderness

What does Myotherapy treatment involve?

Myotherapy treatment involves an extensive physical evaluation and an integrated therapeutic approach to affected muscles, joints, nerves, and associated viscera (organs) and is used in the treatment of acute or chronic conditions and preventative management.

During a myotherapy treatment session, the therapist will begin by assessing the patient’s symptoms and condition in order to identify any areas of weakness or pain.

This initial assessment includes:

  • Taking a thorough patient history
  • Observations of tissues, movement, and gait
  • Postural assessment
  • Palpation of spine, peripheral joints, musculature, connective tissue and associated viscera
  • Clinical orthopaedic and neurological tests

Once the therapist has identified any areas of concern, they will then design a tailored treatment approach based on the patient’s specific symptoms and condition.

Myotherapists utilise a combination of manual therapies such as massage, stretching, and trigger point release. These techniques are used to help reduce pain and inflammation, increase blood flow, release tension, improve mobility and restore proper muscle function. Myotherapy treatment may also use other modalities such as dry needling, cupping, and electrotherapy to help further reduce pain and inflammation.

What conditions can be treated by a myotherapist?

Myotherapy is effective in treating acute and chronic conditions including chronic pain, muscle tension and stiffness, arthritis, fibromyalgia, sciatica, headaches and migraines, back pain, and many others. Myotherapy is an effective treatment option for these conditions because it helps to reduce inflammation and pain, as well as improving mobility and function.
