Before our practitioners can determine the appropriate solution for your specific dislocated shoulder treatment plan, they will thoroughly assess you with standard medical, Orthopedic and special Osteopathic tests.
A dislocated shoulder refers to when the bone of the upper arm has completely shifted away from the surface of the shoulder joint. In this case, the head of the humerus becomes separated from and moves out of the glenoid fossa.
Dislocations of the shoulder joint are common. This is due to the fact that this particular joint sacrifices its stability in order to increase its available range of motion.
This kind of injury is typically seen in athletes experiencing some kind of trauma (such as a tackle) and can be quite painful.
It is recommended for the patient to not attempt to put the shoulder back into place as it could cause further damage and disruption of proper blood and nerve supply to the arm. It is best to allow a doctor or someone equally qualified to correct the dislocation.
Once the dislocated shoulder treatment plan is underway & the dislocation has been reduced, it is very important to have the musculoskeletal aspect of the joint addressed as having one dislocation makes you vulnerable to another. This can lead to chronic shoulder dislocations.
It is very important to strengthen the surrounding muscles of the joint, which are relied on heavily for support. Together with your osteopath, you can achieve recovery.
