Back Pain Treatment in Reservoir

What is Back Pain?

Back pain is a common issue that many people face at some point in their lives. It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as strain from lifting heavy objects, poor posture, or sitting in one position for too long.

Regardless of age or gender, 80 per cent of the population will suffer from back pain & injury at some time in their life. 99% of all lower back injuries are musculoskeletal strains, most often caused by poor posture, overuse or trauma.

Although the underlying pathology of low back pain is usually not serious, with the vast majority of patients recovering within 6 weeks, it is a significant cause of pain in the community and can have a considerable impact on people’s day to day lives.

Types of Back Pain

Back pain can originate from nerves, muscles, joints, bones or other structures in the spine. It can be either acute (short-term), chronic (long-term) or neuropathic, and there are a variety of treatment options available to help relieve the pain.

Acute Back Pain

Acute back pain is pain that is directly related to tissue damage, usually caused by a sudden injury, such as lifting a heavy object or falling. Acute pain can last up to six months. The longer the pain goes for the more susceptible it is to developing into chronic pain.

Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain is more persistent and can last for several months or even years if left untreated. It can be due to an injury or to ongoing structural spine conditions such as degenerative disc disease, failed back surgery syndrome or fibromyalgia,. Chronic back pain can also occur without a clearly determined cause.

Chronic pain can be influenced by ongoing pain signal input to the nervous system, lack of exercise, person’s perception of the pain and depression and anxiety.

Neuropathic Back Pain

Neuropathic pain is usually unrelated to the original injury or condition and can happen if your nervous system is not functioning correctly. In neuropathic pain certain nerves send out pain messages to the brain even though there is no ongoing message from the original source of the pain.

Treatment for Back Pain

Some of the most common treatment options for back pain include physical therapy, exercises, splints or braces and lifestyle changes. These treatments can help reduce inflammation and relieve pain in the affected area.
